hi,
i just thought i'd make another attempt at switching to the latest xquartz
(rather than the default x11 which mostly works fine for me except for some
flaky copy/paste debacles) but had the following three issues that prevent me
from switching.
1) even though full screen mode is set in the preferences, it doesn't start
in full scren mode and i have to press command-option-a.
2) upon initially starting xquartz, moving the pointer over an xterm (with
focus following the pointer), the xterm looks like it has keyboard focus
but keys that are typed don't appear in the window until after i have first
"clicked the mouse" somewhere. i don't mean clicking in the window. the
click can happen in the root window and when i move the pointer back to
the xterm any keys typed are received by the xterm.
3) worst of all, i am still unable to successfully map the right option
key to be a control key. the xmodmap command to remap the key works but
the xmodmap command to turn it into a modifier key still doesn't. i
think i reported this ages ago but it's still the same:
$ xmodmap -e "keycode 69 = Control_R NoSymbol Control_R"
$ xmodmap -e "clear Control"
$ xmodmap -e "add Control = Control_L Control_R"
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 118 (X_SetModifierMapping)
Value in failed request: 0x17
Serial number of failed request: 11
Current serial number in output stream: 11
this works in the default X11.app (XQuartz 2.3.6).

cheers,
raf
