I haven't been able to get the deleteIsDEL setting to work in the version
of xterm that ships with XQuartz 2.7.3 -- xterm version 281. I've
verified that "Delete is DEL" is checked in xterm's Main Options menu, but
xterm still sends the <ESC>[3~ escape sequence when I hit the delete key
on my keyboard.
When I extract xterm version 278 from the XQuartz 2.7.2 disk image and run
that on my XQuartz 2.7.3 installation then the deleteIsDEL setting works
again as I expect it to.
I'm using a MacBook Pro, so in order to get the delete key to send del
instead of ^H I have to use xmodmap to set keycode 59 to Delete, but this
has always worked in the past, and I have verified with xev that pressing
the delete key still registers as Delete once my custom keymap entry is
installed. Also, if the xmodmap setting had failed I would expect xterm
not to send the <ESC>[3~ sequence but instead send ^H when the delete key
was pressed.
Were there any MacOS X-specific changes made to the xterm that shipped
with XQuartz 2.7.3, or is this an issue that I need to take up upstream
with the xterm maintainer?
Mike
