By focus, I mean that it's receiving keyboard and mouse events. I can tell
immediately if it fails, because the block cursor on the xterm's command
line remains an outline, instead of turning into a solid black block.
I'm not sure if it's related, but periodically I can be in an active
xterm, then suddenly the screen flickers, all X clients move to the
foreground and I lose focus (the command line cursor is an outline) on the
xterm I was in. Both of these problems *seem* to be timing related. The
longer I spend in a non-X client, the more likely it is to happen.
I realize this is pretty vague, so I'll try to do some more testing, so
I can provide some more details that you are asking for below.
