Well, I think you oversimplify here.
There are definitely reasons to run Emacs in X11. One of them is the
configurability of the user interface. Another one is if all your other
applications run in X11 and you want to easily jump back and forth and
cut and paste. A third one is if you are logged in to a differnt machine
on the net and want to run an Emacs there, and have it display on the
screen in front of you - especially if you want it next to the Emacs
that runs on your local machine, to be able to compare stuff, and easily
cut and paste.

This is indeed a very good product, of which I am a happy user. I
recommend it warmly!
There is also Aquamacs
http://aquamacs.org/
which is equally good, but different. Emacsformacosx is "for Emacs geeks
who want their normal Emacs running under Aqua". Aquamacs is "for Mac
nerds who want their Emacs to work like the rest of the Aqua stuff".
They fill different needs, but they are both very good.
And yes, I have four different Emacsen installed on my machine - for
different purposes. Call me an addict. :-)
