Hello.
In Macports X11 (Application menu) opening Terminal or xman does not work.
Works just fine here.
In XQuartz, it does work.

However, the normal MacOS Terminal can run directly X applications, such
as xclock, so that there is no need for an xterm.
Indeed. You can start an X11 application from any bash session you want,
does not have to be 'xterm'.
This used to be impossible, which was the reason to install X11 or
XQuartx in the first place.
No, it was always possible to *start* the application, however, without
a X11 server for it to connect to the command would fail. MacPorts X11
server, or XQuartz, both provide said X11 server.
I am quite confused.
Does X11 add the X functionality to the normal MacOS Terminal so that
xterm is not needed ?
Neither adds anything to Terminal itself. Both just provide the X11
server that all X11 based applications need to connect to in order to be
displayed.
