I basically agree also. Doing mostly Java myself, I was comfortable with using
Project Builder before, but Xcode has convinced me to move to something else. I
now use JBuilder and am amazed how fast it is. I don't understand that it's way
faster than Project Builder ever was. I feel like I'm back to the days where I
was using CodeWarrior in terms of productivity. Everything is faster in
JBuilder, scrolling, compiling, no more indexing. Hard to believe, but even the
display of HTML help is faster. How can something written in Java be faster than
PB/Xcode?
But ultimately, it's the UI that makes me decide, and Xcode fares very poorly in
my book in that department. Not because I don't use it, I do use it for some
projects that I have yet to port or for AppleScript Studio.
And what really really bugs me, is that the problems of PB are still there and
for the life of me, and even though I've loved everything Apple has done for the
last 10 years, I don't understand why.
- Indexing
- Index sometimes goes stale
- AppleScript Studio doesn't always debug
- No support for 1.4.1 VM Info.plist options
- Can't compile individual files
- Doesn't remember open tree nodes
- Preferences to open/close the build window don't work
- etc
