I use Xcode for Java development and I feel that it's a big improvement
over Project Builder. While I won't lie and say that I'm not
disappointed that the new features don't apply to Java development,
there are a lot of things that I really like. The UI seems much faster
to me and working with large files also seems much improved. Searching
for symbols has already proven itself to be a big timesaver.
I have eschewed GUI builder tools, I haven't been happy with the code
that they generate, so what I really need is a flexible IDE with robust
text-editing tools. While there are other products that offer more Java
specific features (Eclipse, for instance), I like the speed and
responsiveness of a native application. My build process centers around
Ant, and this is easily integrated into Xcode's workflow.
