It sounds like you guys are making a lot of really great changes,
but could you consider bringing back single window mode? I find
that with lots of projects open or when working on a small screen,
it's great to just have 1 place to look for build/debug/find/editing
info, unless I specifically choose to open a new editor window.
Expose helps, but it's still not as fast as single-window mode.
That's one of the biggest reasons I am not as efficient in Xcode as
PB.
Exactly -- I feel less efficient in Xcode for the very same reason.
Just to give a voice to the other side of the argument, I prefer
Xcode's multi-window mode... but then I have a large screen.
The issue here, as has already been pointed out, is that ProjectBuilder
allowed for extreme flexibility, satisfying *both* camps. Difficult to
accept that the latest and greatest does not offer *at least* the same
flexibility (if not more, given that it's a "new" tool).
I myself have been using CodeWarrior (with lots of windows) for about
eight years before switching to PB and "converting" to its
single-window mode, which was perhaps not perfect but definitely
excellent IMHO.
Xcode 1.0 is very promising and contains a lot of good work and ideas.
However, it is hampering my productivity. I can only laugh at comments
such as "these are just UI issues" -- we are using an IDE to use a UI,
right? Otherwise I can still keep a few terminals open running emacs
plus another one to launch make/gdb/./myapp as I used to do on
Linux/Solaris/etc.
