The problem has been painfully well known to me for some time, but your
careful analysis of its cause was not. When I finally got my project set up
in a way that worked consistently, I stopped changing the settings, and all
is well -- but not very flexible.
All of my projects build to a custom build folder. It seems that this
functionality was left until last during the beta process, so it was a
living hell for me. I never should have tried to do something like this -- a
non-standard setup -- and work through the beta process with it.
In general, there seem to be still -- and always were through the beta
process -- a whole lot of settings that just plain don't work the way they
are supposed to once you try to use them outside of a "standard"
arrangement. It's as if the deadlines were so tight that testing in modified
arrangements just wasn't possible. At some point, rigorous validity testing
of many permutations has to be done.
