Is it a "native" target, or a "JAM-based" target? Only native targets use distributed builds. Seems odd that anything would happen on the shared computers (the "SMB????" process) in that case, though.

Look on your shared machines (Activity Monitor, all processes visible) for a process called "distccd". That's the daemon that handles distributed builds. It should be running at all times, so if you don't see i then something is definitely wrong.

Also, note that if you want your main XCode machine to participate in the build too you have to have it as a shared resource, and in the list of machines to use (assuming you aren't just using all machines anyways) you have to select your own machine too.

I'm trying to get distributed compiling in Xcode to work. In the preference pane for "Distributed Builds" I have a list on machines that have Xcode and Panther installed on them. So I'm assuming these are machines that are available to distribute compiling to. Well, when I run compile on my source machine which has the checkbox "Distribute builds to other shared computers" selected nothing really happens. I saw on one sharing computer briefly a process called "SMB????" fire-up for less than a second and that was it. I have check all my machines they have 100BaseTX <full-duplex> active. So what am I doing wrong?
