1) I thought PkgInfo was deprecated - is there any way to make this
work without using one?
PkgInfo is deprecated, but a number of programs relied on it anyway in
order to determine whether or not the folder was really a bundle or
not. The Finder in 10.1.x and 10.2.x required them; the Finder in
10.3.x doesn't.
If iTunes isn't detecting your plugin because it's missing the PkgInfo
file, then that's most likely due to a bug in iTunes, and you ought to
file a report. <http://bugreport.apple.com/>
2) Why can't I get XCode to generate the PkgInfo file for me? It
seems to be ignoring the 'Force Package Info Generation' tickbox...
You're correct... I just tested that and it isn't working for me
either. Time to file a bug report for that... This used to work in PB
2.1, which is when I last tried that feature.
3) What do you have to do to get XCode to generate the bundle with a
file in the 'Contents' folder? I can't seem to drag it into the the
folder under the Products segment. I can drag it into, say 'Bundle
Resources' in the Targets segment, but then it'll appear in the
'Contents\Resources' folder.
If all else fails, you could use a shell script build phase.
