CVS and Xcode

I'm still trying to get XCode to work with CVS and a bunch of php files.

I've tried several suggestions made, read

http://www.cocoadev.com/index.pl?XCodeWithCVS and http://developer.apple.com/internet/scripting/phpappledevtools.html

tried setting the CVSROOT using SSH Agent, on the command line, etc.

I can use (remote) CVS from the commandline just fine, all works.
I've created a new empty project, then imported all files.

But, I can't do anything with CVS!! Isn't XCode supposed to pick up the CVS information automatically?

How the heck ... I'm sure others have done this successfully!
