Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered, i can't even remember what the
behavior was pre-1.5 but i don't think it was the same. My problem is
that when an XCode window becomes inactive all the toolbar icons grey
out(thus robbing you of the ability to tell at a glance which buttons
are clickable and which are not, which helps when trying to determine
the status of a window, whether it is building, or running, or can be
run). Another byproduct of this is that you have to click the window
twice to press the button.
Combined with the way in which i like to use the console for
instance(doing something in the console, clicking step over, doing
something in the console, etc) , it can be a bit of a pain! It also
seems to slow down the process of switching windows, as the toolbar
icons would have to validate when key state changes. On my 1.25 ghz PB
this can take up to 2 seconds.
I checked some other apps, and the behavior varies, but most of the
ones i did try *didn't* grey out all the toolbar icons when the window
lost focus and *were* single-clickable, such as Mail app.
ITunes and the finder adhere to the new style though, so it would seem
as though Apple is trying to unify that sort of behavior, which frankly
baffles me. What is the benefit to the user?
Even if it benefits a less advanced user somehow, for a power user(and
i think it's safe to say most people who use xcode are power users) it
is much more useful to have it the old way.
Just my 2 cents...if anyone has any input on this i'd certainly be
interested :)
Ali
