Thanks for the hint. I am sure this will be very helpful.
Unfortunately, in this particular case, pressing the tab
key does nothing. It does work, however, if I delete the
content of the tab view item that creates the problem. As
I had mentioned before, all keyboard shortcuts seem to be
affected when the problem occurrs.

That sounds very promising. Yet, I can't seem to find
anything in IB that says outline view. Can you tell me how
I would select this?

Nevertheless, In the name of ordinary folks who want to
use Xcode and Interface Builder more casually just to help
themselves making a simple utility that isn't available
anywhere, I would like to ask you to pass this on to
whoever looks after IB QA. The Info Panel window is the
only *visible* and thus obvious control that a casual user
has and if it becomes disfunct, then that means they will
not try to use Xcode and IB next time around.
There are other nasty bugs that will put off casual users
and non-developers. More importantly, to somebody from
another platform giving OSX a try it gives the wrong
impression about the platform.
I do recognise that developer tools are more complex than
many end user apps, still I say this stuff has to become
far more mature.
