prebinding warning

OSXS 10.3.6
XCode 1.5
gcc 3.3 (november 2004 updater)

It all started when I had to update zlib based upon a source dependancy requirement, then I got the following warning when I built any projects

<x-tad-smaller>ld: warning prebinding disabled because dependent library: /usr/lib/libz.1.dylib is not prebound

</x-tad-smaller>
I tried to issue the 'update_prebinding -root / -force' as suggested by the Apple KB but all this did was un-prebind everything making matters worse.

How can I correct this issue without reinstalling the OS and starting over?
