No, I also think Find is pretty lame. Seems to be missing basic regex
searching, as far as I can tell. Even better would be regex search and
replace, with the ability to use matches as variables in the replace
string.

yup, I agree. Regex would be useful too. And while the Find in Project option allows you to search all open files, it doesn't allow a batch search of a single file. Plus, the interface is a nice attempt, but BBEdit so totally has an edge here. BBEdit's results window is much more easily navigated. If anyone cares and hasn't seen how BBEdit does this, I'd be happy to put up some screenshots; just let me know.

Just a note to Apple: I just started using xcode, and I do _like it. it has some great features. However, things like the functionality of Find and interface issues noted here make it difficult to give up a power-editor like bbedit. (I also miss codewarrior's custom keyword highlighting, if you're listening! :) )

While we're on the subject of the "Find" command, I find xcode's find
to be extremely un-useful. For I don't have the ability to "start from
top of file", nor the ability to "Find All", either in a file or
multiple files.

Am I missing something, or is Find pretty lame? So far, every time I
use it I want to go back to BBedit.

I must be feeling grumpy tonight. Here's a couple more complaints
about the XCode user interface.

After performing a 'Find in Project', the results window default
layout has two columns. They default to equal width, but I want to
make the left column (actual result) much wider than the right column
(the file name containing the result). I can drag the divider across,
but if I close and re-open the project, XCode has forgotten my window
settings, and I have to drag it again. Not very polished.

Another rough edge is the following. I scan down the results from my
'Find in Project', and see the place I want to go to. Why can't I use
the keyboard to get there. I can move the selection with the up and
down arrow keys, but that's just a tease. I still have to move the
mouse and double-click on the result I'm interested in. Why can't I
select it with the arrow keys then press return, or Cmd-down arrow?

John.
