How to report bugs to Apple?

Sorry, slightly off topic. I have hit a problem with the Finder and
would like to report it to Apple. Any suggestions on how to do this?
Also, could any of the power-users out there advise me on how to reset
the Finder mapping from a filename extension to a specific application?
Maybe delete a preferences file somewhere?
Here's the problem I've encountered....
1) Built a new application 'MyApp'.
2) Added application and document icon files to MyApp's bundle in the
Resources folder.
3) Edited info.plist in MyApp's bundle and added references to the icon
files. Document files with the extension '.xxyy' are now associated
with my document icon.
4) I try logging out and in to pass this info to the Finder, but
something minor goes wrong, and .xxyy files are not displaying with the
new icon.
5) At this point I make a fateful error. Select a file in the Finder
with .xxyy extension and File -> Get Info.
6) In the Get Info dialog select the "Open with:" popup item 'Other',
then navigate to MyApp. Now my test document displays with the right
icon, but other files with that extension do not.
7) Eventually, I sort out the problem with info.plist file. Everything
works correctly if I change the info.plist settings so that MyApp
recognizes files with .aabb file extension (Phew!).
But I seem to have set up some sort of conflict with the Finder,
because I still can't get things to work with .xxyy. The Finder refuses
to recognize MyApp as the default application for .xxyy files, even
after multiple log-in log-out. If I log in under another user name,
then there are no problems - .xxyy files display correctly. So the
problem is probably somewhere in ~/Library/Preferences?
If you've read through this, then thanks for your time. If you can
suggest a solution, then I'd be really grateful.
Cheers,
John.
