No you're right creed, at least as far as xcode reading the ~/.cvsrc ..
I just managed to break it using duff arguments to cvs.

the mechanism to set your default options for commands. Each user
needs set up this way. Can solve it for multiple users by linking
~/.cvsrc to some central version on a network volume.
Thinking about this a little more... It's possible that $HOME is an
invalid concept for GUI launched utilities. Try putting it in ~root/
or /

Thats what .cvsrc is for. Add the following line to your ~/.cvsrc
file (create the file if needed.)
update -d -P
