Right -- Disk Utility won't repair it. The lesson to be learned here
is to make a dmg BEFORE you compress anything. And, a hard lesson
learned, let me tell you :)
You don't need to compress disk images. Disk images can be compressed
themselves, see the UDZO format (also UDCO, but that's generally slow
and less efficient). There is no need to create multiple levels of
packaging extraneously, as this only serves to confuse users.
Note that you may need to define the dmg extension in your web server's
recognised MIME types if you're going to distribute it over http.
