Denied Ability To 'Add Files'

Is this a bug - or is it me?
My project is open, I click on 'Add Files', the navigation window
presents me with a columnar view of where the project is located,
BUT... the folder containing my project is DIM - meaning I cannot
select it as part of a path from which to add any files. It is
possible to drag files into the project and add them that way.
Is there some development condition (of which I am not aware) that is
trying to tell me, "This is a bad time to try and add files"?
Thanks,
Lance Drake
