bernard,

I have not used XCode and gdb too much. I think they have some limitations as other IDE and debuggers.

I have been using XCode and GDB exclusively on OSX and I've also used GDB on the commandline in linux all with C++. I can't speak to how well it performs with C, since all my development is in C++. I also develop full time on Win32 using VC6 and VC7.1, and I can say that GDB, as a C++ debugger, can't hold a candle to the Microsoft toolchain. Using VC6 it's easy to debug anything I want, while GDB is just flat out frustrating, it's slow, it's buggy as hell, and it's just plain simpler to use printf in your code (IMHO) than to fight with GDB. At least that has been my experience.

Cheers

Jim
