regarding command-line cvs:
the included cvs has a bug in its pserver authentication whereby it neglects to
handle alternate ports. We hide our server on an alternate port to help shield
it from attacks. The CVSROOT in that case is supposed to look like
setenv CVSROOT :pserver:USERNAME@SERVERADDRESS:XXX:/PATH_ON_CVS_SERVER
where the "XXX:" is optional, and if present, refers to an alternate port.
MacOS's cvs fumbles it. No biggie, since we can remap the port internally, and
we don't really need external access on mac, but it was a pain until I had that
figured out
regarding MacCVSX:
The posted binaries for it are oldish (feb 2003).
3.2beta is slow and contains its own version of cvs under the hood
3.3alpha uses native cvs and thus is faster but suffers from the bug mentioned above
bbedit's cvs integration (at least in 8.02, which is what I am on) is excellent.
I especially like their interface for conflict resolution
