Find Definitions

I'm wondering about the Definitions option in the Project Find window. Didn't find anything in the Xcode help and nothing current in an archive search.

Find Definitions doesn't seem to find anything, and code completion doesn't seem to work either. I suspect they are probably linked. I click the rebuild index button, but it doesn't appear to do anything (after warning me that it may take a while).

Have I left out a step, or, could this have anything to do with the path bug about source files above the project? All my source files are referenced relative to project ../../source/blah_blah. I have just been tolerating the sticky error marks because none of the options to fix it were appealing.
