XCode compile options

Hi,

Let me firt warn you all by saying that I'm very new to Mac
and extreemely new to XCode.

I've got XCode 1.5 and has noticed that it uses GCC, which is 3.3
(at least I think) and was wondering if I could upgrade it? Can I
just do a 'make install' on some GCC-source, and then expect it to
work, or is there some other trick to be pulled in order to succeed??

Furtermore - with a 'custom' GCC, could I make XCode compile my
source for other platforms (here I'm especially thinking of
x86/win+linux and the mips (PS2)?? And last, but not least, could I
make XCode compile my Java code with GCC??

Thanks in advance... ;-)
