Hi,

I've imported a rather big WO project with several hundred of files (localized in 3 languages) to subversion repository. After this operation it takes almost 30 seconds to open the project in Xcode 1.5 on a G5 2x2GHz, before it was quite fast or at least normal. I tried to activate the svn support in Xcode to see whether it's faster or not... but doesn't change.

Any idea why it's soooo slowwwww?

Is Subversion slow for you from the command line, in Xcode, or both? Your message title implies that it's slow in Xcode but your message body implies it's the same speed as the command line.

Hi Tom,

No. Normal from command line.

Only Xcode is really slow while openning this project, and closing too. We tried on another Mac G5 (bipro): it's a little bit faster to open the project but not 2 times faster...

BTW, there are a lot of files in .svn folder (about 20 files for a WO component folder) and it seems this fact makes Xcode really slow for big projects (300 WO components * 20 files = 6000 files. I got about 7200 files with command ls -lR myproject/ | grep myname | wc -l, excludig the build folder). I notice too that for searches is also slow even with a filter to ignore Subversion files/folder.

Note: I don't use the SCM capabilities of Xcode but instead the cli commands because my experiences with Xcode1.5+svn are bad.

Subversion support in Xcode is a work in progress. Due to some bugs there are still some things you have to do from the command line such as adding directories,  working with nibs, and managing your repository. But you still might find it useful to turn it on in Xcode so you can view SCM information about modified/updated files etc. right in the UI.

I guess it's a work in progress but migrating from PB/CVS/CVL under Jaguar, with WOBuilder starting to crash often and Xcode+svn slow under Panther on one of the fastest Mac... I'm really thinking to shift to Eclipse after what I saw, even if WO integration is not as good as it is under Xcode but at least I can develop in good conditions.

Sincerely.
