Hi XCode folks,
In reading items submitted to this list, I noticed reference to the
<username.mode1> file.
But, if the debugger variables problem described is a function of the
'mode1' file, it appears there may be other related problems with that
file mechanism. I mention this for anyone who may be having problems
similar to the one that was facing me.
A bug was submitted by me to BugReporter because, if I dragged a file
into a project - or used 'Add To Project' - where the directory was
located in an 'up and over and down' relative path, the file could not
be found for purposes of being used in a build. I could click on the
file and see it in the editor, it was available for inspection by the
Info dialog - but the build tool would complain, "No such file...".
Repeated attempts to delete/add/redefine did not help. Other than
moving the file into the project directory, the only solution seemed to
be to delete the file reference from the project, delete the
username.mode1 file in the project bundle and then re-add the file.
However, even then it was not 100% guaranteed to be a successful
effort.
Not everyone is going to see this problem - it depends on the
organization of your project files. I have a 'common' folder that is a
peer with several project folders. It seems that every once in a
while, Xcode has a problem with a few files that I try to add to my
project where the relative path might be something like
"../Up/Over/Down/filename.h". It's not a 100%-error for a given
directory, it could be just one or two items out of 50.
The 'search local paths' parameter in the styles notwithstanding, it
would seem reasonable that the IDE should be able to correctly make use
of whatever is the path that is learned at the time the file is added
to the project.
If this 'cannot find file' situation is part of your problem set,
please file a bug so it won't look like I'm the only one here that's
bumping into this doorjam.
Thank goodness this is my big-complaint with XCode - for I am
otherwise so grateful to be able to make use of such a capable and
useful toolset.
