The answer I got when I asked this question was that it is backwards compatible IFF you don't use any of the new features in 1.5 that is not supported in 1.2. It should be noted that there is no support in Xcode 1.5 to warn you when you're adding things to the project files that will break older versions of Xcode...


In our organization we opted to stay on Xcode 1.2 for this reason, and because of other issues we bumped into with 1.5.

(I should file a feature request for a "compatibility check" for Xcode, like there is in IB)
