turns out that Xcode somehow switched to including an entire folder instead of just it's 'include' sub-folder...

If you have included "foo", what makes you think Xcode should only look into / handle / do whatever "foo/include"?

What ever "included" means. Added to the project as a folder reference, as a group, added to the Header Search paths, ... ?

..."included" meaning folder reference...Originally, in project builder, I had created a folder named "foo" with only an "include" folder inside with headers...this had migrated and worked fine thru at least 3 iterations of Xcode until recently, when it decided to somehow reference the ENTIRE enclosing "foo" folder...

...sure was puzzling, but again, it is solved by deleting the folder from the project and then re-adding it...
