Perforce and the project.pbxproj file...

  • Subject: Perforce and the project.pbxproj file...

I've just started trying out the Perforce integration with Xcode and I've got a question about editing the project file (project.pbxproj). If I try to edit a source file that is under Perforce control (say file.cpp), then Xcode will put up a sheet asking me if I want to open it up for edit. I can say I do and the file will be checked out and all is well. But I don't get the same thing when I edit the project file. This has the effect of Xcode allowing me to change settings in the project file, but then not saving them. In fact Xcode doesn't even tell me that the project file is read-only, it just pretends that it actually saved the file. Then when I open it up again I come to find that the changes I had made did not get saved.

Is there a way to get Xcode to prompt me to open the project file for edit?

In fact, I can't even check out the project file at all from within Xcode. Is there any way to do this? I've only checked in the project.pbxproj file in Perforce and left out the dave.pbxuser and dave.mode1 files, could this be the problem? Or is it that Xcode just doesn't support this because the project file is in a Bundle?

Thanks!
