distcc (left over) temporary files eating massive amount of disk space

  • Subject: distcc (left over) temporary files eating massive amount of disk space

Has anybody noticed this, or is this some problem with our local setup:

We see massive amounts of temporary files left over from distcc ( in /tmp/distcc_00000XXX ). Now that everybody is using distributed builds on our site, the amount of left over temporary files easily reaches more than 1 GB.
It looks like these are files created by the distccd when the machine compiles as a client for another machine.

Shouldn't distccd clean up once the files are compiled? I already installed a cron job that checks regularly for those files, but since I don't know whether the files are still in use, I only can remove the ones that are older than a certain interval (e.g. 15 minutes), but it looks like we can run out of space on some machines even during that interval :(

Anybody else experiencing this?
