"<incomplete type>" in debugger?

  • Subject: "<incomplete type>" in debugger?

Hi all,

When trying to debug a particular bit of my C++ code, I've been seeing
"<incomplete type>" displayed for the value of "this" in an object's
method.

The class of "this" is fully qualified in the source and include files
used to compile the code I'm stepping through, and in this Development
build style, the debugging flags are -gfull and optimization is -O0.

A smart friend of mine said "it does that for classes in your code that
inherit from classes in a framework for which it does not have debug
information," but that doesn't apply here (per the above).

I tried experimenting with a trivial example, and of course I can't
reproduce the problem.

Can anyone shed any light on why this happens? I assume that gdb isn't
maliciously trying to get in my way when I'm trying to debug, even if it
does feel that way...

Thanks,

R.

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.
