I agree with your complaint that they didn't adequately warn us
about the monitor requirement, but I object to your use of the
phrase "ordinary monitor". It requires a digital monitor. These
days, that's ordinary. Those dusty old analog clunkers are the odd
ones out. :-)
I must respectfully disagree. An "ordinary monitor" is one that I
can find lying around the office and just plug it into the new
machine since no one else is using it. An "ordinary monitor" is not
one that you have to go out and buy just to get something that will
work with your new system.
Part of the reason why many are upset at Apple (including me) is
because there is a large hidden cost in the DTK. Not only do you
have to pay $999 for a system that you'll be returning in a year and
a half, but many people also have to go out and buy a brand new DVI
monitor just to use the thing. And this is for a machine that will
probably be used primarily for testing, meaning that someone probably
won't be using it full time every day. For me that makes it pretty
tough to justify the purchase of a new monitor.
