I, too, told my management that the Developer Transition Kit would cost only $1000, and did not notice that it will not work with an ordinary monitor.

I agree with your complaint that they didn't adequately warn us about the monitor requirement, but I object to your use of the phrase "ordinary monitor". It requires a digital monitor. These days, that's ordinary. Those dusty old analog clunkers are the odd ones out. :-)

I must respectfully disagree. An "ordinary monitor" is one that I can find lying around the office and just plug it into the new machine since no one else is using it. An "ordinary monitor" is not one that you have to go out and buy just to get something that will work with your new system.

Part of the reason why many are upset at Apple (including me) is because there is a large hidden cost in the DTK. Not only do you have to pay $999 for a system that you'll be returning in a year and a half, but many people also have to go out and buy a brand new DVI monitor just to use the thing. And this is for a machine that will probably be used primarily for testing, meaning that someone probably won't be using it full time every day. For me that makes it pretty tough to justify the purchase of a new monitor.
