So you have to buy a DVI-I cable and then convert it to DVI-D or

Try PCCables.com, DVI-D from $16.00. I have purchased DVI-D and
other cables from them.
That's good and fine if you know in advance that you're going to need
one. Apple, however, does not tell you when you order the DTK that
you're going to need a digital monitor and DVI-D cable. Instead, for
most of us we got the DTK and then spent the better part of a day
running around town trying to find either a DVI-VGA adapter that
would fit (not knowing what DVI-D was let alone that it meant no
analog signal) or trying to find a DVI-D cable for a reasonable price.
If we would have known in advance what we needed and what would work
with the transition kit then we could have saved a lot of time and
ordered something online for cheap.
Hopefully now a lot more people will know what they'll need when they
order their transition kit.
