Well, so it does! Shucks, and I used to read the HIG so religiously
:-). But unlike the Finder, pressing the Option key does not effect
Xcode's File menu, nor does Command-Option-W work.

Excellent! Thank you for the tip.
It's too bad this "feature" isn't documented.
As far as Mac behaviors go, it is documented.[1]
I've noticed a problem that many developers, including the NeXT guys
at Apple and probably interns at Apple, don't read the guidelines
documentation. Command-Option-W is supposed to Close All windows
(within the application).
Same thing goes with Option-Minimize and Option-Zoom: the behavior is
supposed to then apply to all of the windows. Also of note: currently
this "all" actually does as it says and includes minimized windows, as
well. (For both closing all and zooming all.)
The menu should update itself in real time when you press the option
key (you can try this out in the Finder).

[1] From the current HIG:
"Also use Option for a keyboard shortcut that is a convenience or
power-user feature. For example,
the Finder uses Command-Option-W for Close All Windows and
Command-Option-M for Minimize
All Windows."
It's also too bad that "command-option-w" doesn't work, which would
seem to be the command-key equivalent of what you propose. I just
get a system beep when I try "command-option-w". It's also too bad
that this "feature" isn't listed in the "Key Bindings" tab of the
Xcode preferences.
