On OpenVMS there is LSE, the Language Sensitive Editor. This editor
is user programmable and has a feature called learn sequence. Learn
sequences are kind of macro recordings that you can bind to any
key. Does anybody know of an editor on MacOSX that does something
similar?
Initially, AppleScript was meant to do such things. There are only
very few apps (e.g. BBEdit, Scriptable Text Editor) which allow
recording of sequences, however. Your best bet would probably be to
request an enhancement to get recordability in Xcode. Given the
current set of other imperfections in Xcode it might not get too high
on the priority list.
There's still a chance you can do it with a manually edited
AppleScript. Some people have the talent to write AppleScripts
easily, others don't ...
