Thanks for both of the replies. I do have a preference for making
everything use gcc 4, but I also have a preference of keeping things
simple so others can reproduce what I've done. The GCC_VERSION_* trick
seems to work well enough so far and is simple enough that people
should be able to figure out what I did.
Still, it would be kind of nice to figure out how to deal with the
long double issue. It seems that this is the only issue in the way (so
close, yet so far). From the website, it's not clear to me what issues
compiling gcc 4.0 on Jaguar will address the long double issue (and
it's a pain for me to get access to a Jaguar machine to try). Some of
the issues discussed on the webpage like libgcc_s and libmx forced
linkage were fixed in the Xcode 2.2 release so I'm wondering if this
step does anything any more.
