Custom build products location

Because our main project includes many subprojects, I had to change the build location to a central folder for all projects. I made this relative to SRCROOT so it would be correct on any machine. After I completed CW->Xcode conversion I checked everything in and synced on another machine. To my surprise, the build location does not seem to be stored in the project, even though it's part of the project settings info window. On the 2nd machine, all the projects reverted to using the default build location. Is this correct? If it is, WHY was it done this way? This is most annoying.
