Have you tried enabling the verbose output of the distcc daemon? See the XCDistributedBuildsVerboseLogging and DistributedBuildsLogLevel defaults in the "expert" settings. This may provide you with the information you're looking for. I've never tried this myself, so I can't say for sure, but it's a cheap experiment.

You should really point out to the (potential) leechers that's there's a process priority associated with sharing one's computer for distributed builds. Set it to Low if they are concerned that other developers are going to steel their precious CPU cycles (most of which I'm sure are going to waste, by the way).
