Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience controlling the speech in the Mac OS.
My and a friend had this idea for a class project in audio to create a sort of symphony or band using just the voices from the spoken items. Is it possible to access this voices in another way then writing text files? Is it possible to maybe create a gui that would be able to control it like a conductor ( tell it to loop a phrase or change voices or play two voices at the same time...etc...)?

I don't know how to use the speech on Mac OS but your idea sounded interesting. When my sons were something like 3 & 6 I recorded one of them saying "yes" and the other saying "no". I sampled it into a Roland S-550 sampler. So when I played a key on a keyboard I would get their voice. The sampler adjusted the pitch depending on the key pressed. I then entered a Bach two part invention into a computer that had a MIDI port. I attached one part to one of my sons voice and the other part to the second son's voice. I then had the computer play it and I recorded it. I did this as a project for a local university synthesizer class I was taking. It was a great deal of fun and came out really well. I wish I still had the recording around somewhere since the boys are now 18 & 21.

Good luck with your project.

Mike
