Hello all,
I recently went through and cleaned up our xcode project to work
well with build configurations in xcode 2.1. I moved all the
settings that were duplicated within all the targets (nearly 50!)
into the settings for the project. I was able to whittle it down
so that each target has only 1 or 2 customized settings (woo-
hoo!) I also removed an extra Build Configuration that we never
use (it was previously a Style).
However, opening the project in a text editor, I see references to
the configuration I deleted. I also see references to build
styles. Why would this be? These are in a section labeled /*
Begin PBXBuildStyle section */ Why is that section still around?
There's also a buildStyles = (...) within the PBXProject section.
The buildStyles section is a hold-out from the Xcode 2.0 days. Just
ignore it. I don't understand why the deleted configuration would
continue to show up in the project file though.
Looking further into it, the section for each target has a set of
build settings associated with it, in addition to the build
settings for each build configuration for those targets. Why does
xcode save this extra set of build settings that doesn't appear to
be actually used?
Another part of the old Xcode 2.0 regime that we need to clean up :(
One last thing, when creating a new project from a template, a
configuration named "Default" is made. What is the point of that
configuration?
In Xcode 2.1 the templates were still made with Xcode 2.0, so the
"Default" configuration is created to capture a target's settings
without any style imposed on them. We are working on updating the
templates to use build configurations, so this problem should
disappear in future versions of Xcode.
Scott
thanks!
