I just noticed that there is a neat new feature in XCode that allows you to use garbage collection. However, I remember reading somewhere once that if you are using anything from the Cocoa libraries that you can't use garbage collection (messes up the reference counting somehow). Is this true?
Problem 2. I'm currently stuck in Objective-C++ hell, and would really like to use the garbage collector, if at all possible. The C++ code CANNOT be modified to solely use the garbage collector. That is, it is supposed to be cross-platform, which means that new() and delete() need to stay there. What will happen if I turn on the garbage collector? Do delete(), free(), etc. simply get defined as dummy functions that do nothing? Or is there going to be something thats going to bite me, and therefore it would be better for my sanity to simply avoid that nuttiness by avoiding garbage collection altogether?
Finally, does the garbage collector have any problems with multithreaded applications under the above conditions?
Thanks,
Cem Karan
