I have mined turned off by default but don't recall exactly what caused
it. I do remember closing all editing windows but one, turning
off the status bar and then it was gone from all future windows.
I may have a preference turned on that causes it to remember this
setting though.

Nice catch. I confess I didn't even realise there was a "Hide Status Bar".
Does anyone know of a way to permanently turn off the status bar in all
text editing windows? From a UI pov, I find it silly that every window
shows 'compiling...', 'build succeeded', etc. when these are project-
level messages.
