Okay, enough. :-)
I'm filling bugs for this and other related lacks. What do you
recommend, one bug for feature or including related features in the
same report?
My main needs/wishes are the following ones; maybe others would also
like to see them, so I'll post them to the list before going Radar:
* Documentation of the .xcodeproj bundles and their contents.
* Documentation of the .xcspec format.
* Documentation of the .xctxtmacro format.
* Documentation of the .trgttmpl format.
* Documentation of the .pbfiletemplate bundles and their various
TemplateInfo.plist file formats.
* Documentation and opening of the Xcode plug-in API (.xcplugin and
family).
* If the above item doesn't cover it, opening the debugger API for
connecting other debuggers.
* Possibility of extending the supported file formats and their
syntax colouring (maybe made possible by the plug-in API).
* Support for integrating other languages with the class browser
(maybe made possible by the plug-in API, I want Ruby class and
documentation browsing now :-P).
* The ability to browse custom local documentation in the same window
as the rest of the ADC docs.
I handle some very different project kinds through my workdays and
the above features would help me stay in Xcode all the time, which I
would like to do.
All those items in combination with the possibility of dynamically
calling scripts to create new files would make of Xcode a killer IDE
for Rails development, for example. They would also help a lot of
developers that must use different languages for their work but like
to use a full true-Mac IDE for their work (yes, that's me).
The progress with the 2.X code-line has been very very good, though.
But truth be told, it's only that the more you give us, the more we
want.
Cheers,
David.
