You can have multiple project files in the same source folder, but
you'll have to be careful when using things like xcodebuild (you'll
always need to pass the -project option to specify the project).
If you want to be debugging multiple different targets, then yes,
going to a multi-project layout is the way to go and by default the
project should just use the same ./build folder. I tend towards
using a separate, shared location so I can keep my sources separate
from intermediates and products (for example, by default I build
into /var/tmp/tooker/Products), but what you want to do should work.

Greetings,
I'm about to split my project up into multiple projects. I have a
GUI client and several helper tools, which get compiled separately
from (mostly) the same source.
Reading the 2.1 Xcode documentation, it says that if I use multiple
targets to build my helper tools I won't be able to use the graphic
debugger to debug them. So, initially, I thought I'd create
multiple projects instead. Once I have the glue working between
the client and helpers, I may turn this back into a singe project
with multiple targets (I don't want to have to keep version and
build settings for four projects in sync).
To build a project using subprojects, the Xcode documentation says
that you need to use a shared build folder. Here's my question:
Can I just create multiple project files within the same folder and
just let them share the source and the local ./build folder?
I poked around in most of the example projects shipped with Xcode,
and I didn't see any examples of projects with multiple .xcode
project files in the same folder -- so I thought I'd ask.
