How to expand debugger variable pane?

How does one expand one of the debugger's variable panes (either the name or value)? If I double click on a variable (getting a new window), I can get the "splitter" cursor when crossing over the top (of that window); however, in the main window, I don't see any way to adjust the lines that separate the names from their values--I never seem to get the "splitter" cursor to move them.
