Thanks,
the lsbom showed c++filt as being in the BSD package, but I didn't compare the numbers with those in your message.
I went and found the BSD package on the 10.4 disk and re-ran it (rather than the whole install) and that fixed that problem.
Makes me wonder what else is missing, though :) I had done an upgrade install from 10.3.9 to 10.4.
I went and re-ran the installer in !easy mode, but there weren't any packages listed there that I hadn't installed... I note that BSD is NOT among the optional packages anymore...
Well, it's working now - so thanks again!

As far as we can tell, c++filt is in /usr/bin/c++filt as usual. It should have been installed with the "BSD Packages" on Tiger install. From Terminal, do

lsbom /Library/Receipts/BSD.pkg/Contents/Archive.bom | grep c\+\+filt

You should see

./usr/bin/c++filt       100755  0/0     351836  3781245634
./usr/share/man/man1/c++filt.1  100644  0/0     8512    1617226393

If you don't, try reinstalling the BSD packages from your Tiger install disk.
