FileMerge Service

Hi everyone. I've been trying to get the FileMerge Service to work in the Finder, and I just can't seem to get it to do anything. In the Finder, when no files are selected, the Services menu contains a FileMerge menu with the following menu items:
Compare Files
Compare to Master

If I select a single file and click on one of the menu items, nothing happens. If I select two files to compare (which is really what I'd like to do), the aforementioned menu items don't even appear.

So basically, I just don't think I understand how this FileMerge service is supposed to work. Has anyone used it successfully? If so, how do you get it to work? I couldn't find any documentation on the FileMerge's services menu items and a google search for "filemerge service mac os x" yielded nothing of use.

-Prachi
