If you pick FileMerge (which it seems you have), it uses /usr/bin/
opendiff to do the diff.
That tool, in turn, launches /Developer/Applications/Utilities/
FileMerge.app to show the diff.
Make sure that both of those (opendiff and FileMerge) exist and are
launchable.
I filed a bug report about this earlier (4112578), and it was flagged
as a duplicate.
I've verified that all my tools have the acceptable permissions
(555 / 775), and can be launched.
The difference between me and Rick is that I only get the console
messages, but can't really see that I have any problems using FileMerge.
I should also mention that my com.apple.Xcode property list doesn't
have an "XCSCMCompareToolSelection" key. I guess the question in my
case is why this is logged as an error / warning, while the
functionality provided still seems to work?
I've tried to toggle the SCM settings in the SCM preference pane.
That gave me a couple of new XCSCMxxx keys in my preference file, but
not this one.
