Hi everyone,
One question has been burning in my mind since Tiger was released: How
synchronized with FSF's gcc-4.0 branch is Apple's ppc branch, the one
that
shipped with Tiger?
This issue has been discussed on both this list and the darwin lists.
Apple has to go with what is available to meet their product schedules.
Changing the compiler at the last minute is a Really Bad Idea. The
version of gcc 4.0 released with Mac OS X 10.4 is really out of date
w.r.to the FSF reelase, for that reason. The system (at least, much of
the Darwin part of 10.4) was built gcc 3.3.
Are there plans to
merge fixes in for the next Dev Tools update? Do I just need to be
patient? (Should I be asking this on a different list?) Many thanks
in
advance.
You should file bugs (and read the mailing list traffic; but a known
bug should still be reported) and be patient (or work yourself into a
lather; your choice :-}). Note that Apple doesn't discuss future plans
on mailing lists.
HTH

Justin
