also, since the subject is this fictitious xcode 2.2, (it must have been a typo), why don't you scroll back through all the other folks that have xcode 2.2 in their subject line and chastize them as well?

That other people made the same mistake as you doesn't change the fact that you're not supposed to discuss pre-release software publicly...

Just to clear some things up:

• The existence of Xcode 2.2 itself is not confidential. A link to it is posted "in the clear" on the ADC member site:

http://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/getSoftware?fileID=19767&source=x&code=y

It is available to any ADC online member.

• The details about the various Xcode 2.2 seed versions are covered under your nondisclosure agreement as an ADC member. Questions about the specific behavior of seed should go to email@hidden and not discussed openly on public lists.

• Occasionally in response to a question about a bug or feature in a shipping version of Xcode we'll confirm that it is intended to be (or has been seeded in) the "next update" or "next major release." We don't disclose release dates of updates or new versions. In the case that the next update has been publicly seeded, we give the release number just to disambiguate whether we mean the "final version of the release currently seeded" or "the one after that."

Remember that version numbers are not cast in stone and have often changed over the course of product development, which is why we are generally noncommittal about version numbers of unreleased products.
